re: Wes's ToC Faction Champ Semi-Strats

So. I've run ToC twice, each run only getting up to Faction Champs. However, I have played a bit of arena as well. So basically, I wanna toss a few of my ideas against the wall and, should raid leaders find them useful, implement some of them in future PtV runs. Again, most of this is speculation, as I'm no master of ToC. But keep some of this in mind.

As it is generally accepted, Faction Champs (FC from here on) are known as a PvEP-type fight. While our running strategy is exactly what we should have been doing from a PvE standpoint, I think we could be more successful if we keep in mind PvP strategies. The enemies act more like players than typical enemies. WoWWiki agrees that champions will attack certain players for certain reasons, i.e., the Arms Warrior is going to bend over all the clothies that don't get out of the way. Since this is the case, PvP strategies should be implemented in this fight.

First: Don't just watch the numbers fly all over your screen like you normally do. You need to be aware of what other enemies are doing, especially if you're in cloth or leather. If you see a melee coming at you, call out for some help. At this point, the person being targetted should start kiting, and someone with a slow (hamstring, crippling poison, mage slow, CoI, frost shock, anything else) should be helping out as well.

Second: Interrupts and Offensive Dispels are the key to winning this fight. They're how you keep a healer down. You can easily make focus and/or mouseover macros to cast a quick dispel without nerfing your dps or healing. MOUSEOVERS ARE GREAT. IF YOU NEED HELP MAKING ONE SEE ME IN-GAME. Important thing to know about the FC Pally: It uses the p.i.t.a. bubbles we all know so well. Divine Shield (the self-cast only, bubble-hearth bubble) can be dispelled by a warrior's Shattering Throw or a priest's Mass Dispel. THAT MUST BE DISPELLED. Hand of Protection (bubble that can be cast on any friendly target) should be dispellable by any normal dispel. THIS MUST ALSO BE DISPELLED.

Third: USE CROWD CONTROL. Sap is relatively useless here. Repentance is great as an interrupt, or can help a clothie escape the clutches of a melee. Polymorph, Hex, and stuns are very helpful. Rogues in particular are very useful through stun-locking and utility poisons (mind-numbing, crippling, and/or wound). FCs are vulnerable to Death Grip, and should be used as well.

Also worth remembering, is that shaman totems play a huge role for both sides. Any ranged dps should be downing the enemy shaman's totems (should the shaman spawn) and the raid's shaman(s) should make sure cleansing and tremor totems are down.

These enemies are un-tankable. This means that the dps (looking at you, plate wearers) should be helping each other and healers survive. Use every spell in your arsenal to survive. Dead dps do no dps. Keep a dps with interrupts and/or stuns (prot warrs and rogues are great) on a healer if you aren't burning it down. Help each other.

PvP is teamwork, organization, and knowing what you have to do. Ironically, that's what PvE is as well. The only difference is what you have to do, and when. Be aware of your surroundings. Play smart.

Anyway, this is all mostly common sense for this encounter, but necessary. Hopefully this helps at least a little bit. These are just my ideas...and by my ideas I mean recycled and condensed information from WoWWiki and personal PvP experience. Good luck with all your future attempts...I hope to join you again soon.

Thanks Wes. I forget I have Hex since I don't PvP a lot and should review my totems before this fight.

I would just like to add too, that I think you need to be a bit selfish on this fight. (ie take care of yourself first) Unlike PVE, you can't count on heals or any aggro dumps to help here. Heal yourself if you can and play D first since there is no O if you are dead.

Yes, watching out for yourself is exactly what you have to do. The trick is watching out for yourself, while using whatever abilities you can to help your teammates as well...all while trying to do dps/healing.

I guess it's not supposed to be easy... Glad to see you noticed I posted though Happy

Great post Wes. I agree that this fight takes a completely different mind set. Since most of us dont PvP much, tips from those who do are greatly appreciated to help get us past this hurdle.
